Constant Output 6: Bump in the Road

My mission this week was to get a functioning puppet armature up and going. I didn't have a plan about the character or story — I just wanted an armature. I knew tackling it wasn't going to be easy (and possibly expensive), but this Youtube Video was the best DIY armature out there.

From this video, I would need:

  1. Wire
  2. Epoxy Putty
  3. T-Nuts
  4. Machine Screws
  5. Washer
  6. Wingnut

I gathered my materials but made one vital mistake: I got epoxy glue instead of putty. (Yes, I know the video says specifically not to get glue but alas.)

Here’s how far I got without putty:

I first drew out the proportions and made a to-scale drawing of my puppet.

I twisted together my wire to shape the skeleton of the body.

And here is my tragic realization that glue would not suffice. Sigh. At this point, I have to put a pause on this as I wait for my putty to come in from Amazon. I went on to design a character I’d like to potentially use with this armature.

This is a silly caricature of a trendy New Yorker guy. The point is to make fun of that silly fisherman beanie they all wear. Sure, it's fashionable, but I can’t help but wonder if their ears are cold. Actually, I KNOW their ears are cold because mine get cold in a regular hat.
