Art Toy Design: Galactic Rat
I changed my design to a space rat! Here are process pics from the sculpt:
This time, I used air-dry modeling clay. With this clay, I was able to work with the different stages of drying to get more detail and a smoother finish. While the clay was super soft, I was easily able to block out the general figure, and as it became harder, I could scrape away small amounts from the surface.
I dropped it off at LaGuardia Studio to get 3D scanned. Below is a little preview of the rat getting scanned. The staff member who helped me said it would scan really well.
I also looked at the types of materials they have at the studio and I decided a clear filament would be best. Since I’m not sure where to even start with having it colored and I’m afraid it will look bad or tacky in color, the clear is a cool alternative. It also reminds me of the limited edition figures in a collector series of something.
For the packaging, I’d like to make a custom box like this:

With really cool retro comic book style graphics:
I think I will either print directly onto a thick matte board or mod podge printed paper onto my cardboard.
